Welcome to the online application for the New York State Excelsior Scholarship program.

This application is for students looking to receive a first-time award for the Spring 2024 term. If you still have a pending application from the Fall 2023 term, please contact HESC or your school financial aid office to determine the cause.

Applicants who first enrolled in college prior to 2020 (prior to 2019 if in an approved 5-year program or in an opportunity program) are not eligible for an Excelsior scholarship and should not submit an application. Visit www.hesc.ny.gov to learn the other NYS scholarships that may be available.

Please note: if you are already a recipient of an Excelsior Scholarship from a previous application period, you do not need to complete this application. You are a recipient if you signed and submitted the Excelsior Scholarship contract, even if you did not receive payment in the prior year.

Apply before 2/9/23 for Excelsior Scholarship and Attend Suffolk County Community College

The Excelsior Scholarship, in combination with other student financial aid programs, allows students to attend a SUNY or CUNY college tuition-free. The program covers tuition for eligible SUNY and CUNY students. For the 2022-23 academic year, families who earned $125,000 or less in the tax year 2020 are eligible to apply.

Application deadline –  February 9, 2023 at midnight.
