Suffolk Credit Union awards college scholarships to Suffolk County Community College students

Suffolk Credit Union presented college scholarships totaling $37,500 to nine local students attending Suffolk County Community College this fall. The award ceremony was held on August 16 at the credit union’s Medford branch.

This year, Ashley Bove of Holbrook received a $6,275 scholarship from the LT Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship, which was matched by Suffolk Credit Union for a total of $12,550. Edward Freudenberg of Yaphank was awarded $6,275 by Suffolk Credit Union in honor of the Michael E. Reilly Foundation Memorial Scholarship.

Suffolk Credit Union Achievement Scholarships ranging from $2,150-$6,275 were awarded to Robert Cronin (Aquebogue), Hannah Walsh (Dix Hills), Arshiyan Khan (Selden), Alicia Anthony (Dix Hills), Cristal Lainez-Pixtum (Wyandanch), Amy Boos (Brentwood) and Sun Ji Lee (Commack).

“These scholarships are a result of an ongoing partnership between our credit union and the Suffolk Community College Foundation to help people throughout our communities achieve their educational and career goals,” said Michele Dean, CEO & President, Suffolk Credit Union. “By alleviating the cost of college for these hardworking students and their families, we position them for financial stability and empower their future success.”

Suffolk Federal Credit Union awarded nine scholarships totaling $37,500 to local students who are attending Suffolk County Community College this fall at an August 31 award ceremony.

“Since partnering with the college three years ago, we are proud to have sponsored 23 scholarships totaling $93,000,” said Michele Dean, CEO & President, Suffolk Federal Credit Union. “By easing the financial burden of college costs, we help families in our communities as well as students—freeing up resources for other important goals.”

This year, Skyla Fabbricante of East Northport received a $6,275 scholarship from the L.T. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship, which was matched by Suffolk Federal for a total of $12,550. Daniel Paesano (Sound Beach) was awarded $6,275 by Suffolk Federal in honor of the Michael E. Reilly Foundation Memorial Scholarship.

Suffolk Federal Credit Union Achievement Scholarships ranging from $2,150-$6,275 were awarded to Christina Boles (Brentwood), Kristin Squire (Islip), Rachel Lee (Middle Island), Alyssia Furchert (Blue Point), Leslie Bardales Vera (Selden), Ian Fischer (Stony Brook) and Jonathan Mata (Riverhead).

The scholarships are a result of an ongoing partnership between Suffolk Federal and the Suffolk Community College Foundation to help people throughout our communities achieve their dreams. Award recipients were selected based on their academic achievements, extracurricular activities, community involvement and essays.

“This scholarship program reflects Suffolk Federal Credit Union’s deep commitment to helping young people and families throughout Long Island. The recipients clearly have demonstrated the drive and discipline to succeed,” said Dr. Edward Bonahue, president of Suffolk County Community College.

Diaz, PhD, LMSW, Executive Director, Suffolk Community College Foundation, “It is an honor to continue this partnership with Suffolk Federal, which has a long-standing reputation as a community-focused credit union. Suffolk Federal Credit Union presented college scholarships totaling $43,925 to six deserving high school graduates who plan to attend Suffolk County Community College this fall.

“As a community-focused credit union, we are committed to supporting hardworking students as they pursue higher education, while also easing the financial burden for their families,” said Michele Dean, CEO & President of Suffolk Federal. “We congratulate these outstanding scholarship recipients for their accomplishments and are pleased to help them achieve their educational and career goals.”

The following four Suffolk Federal Scholarship award recipients each received a scholarship of $6,275: Alex Pinto (Deer Park), Alyssia Furchert (Blue Point), Michael Krolikiewicz (Farmingville) and Zachary Gallant (Port Jefferson Station).

In addition, Juliana Ramai (Centereach) received a $6,275 scholarship from the LT Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation, which was matched by Suffolk Federal for a total of $12,550. Daniel Paesano (Sound Beach) was awarded $6,275 by Suffolk Federal in honor of the Michael E. Reilly Foundation Memorial Scholarship for Excellence.

Dr. Edward Bonahue, President of Suffolk County Community College, noted, “Young people are our greatest resource and best investment. Through these scholarships, Suffolk Federal demonstrates its notable commitment to helping Long Island families thrive and succeed.”

Suffolk Federal Credit Union Announces Scholarships to Make Dream of Attending Suffolk Community College Possible

Suffolk Federal is offering local Suffolk County students a wonderful opportunity to win academic scholarships to Suffolk County Community College to ensure their hopes of attending college can come true.

Through this program and partnership, six scholarships will be awarded from $5,000 or $10,000 each. Applications must be completed online and submitted by April 26, 2019. If selected as a recipient for any of the scholarships, the student must become a member of Suffolk Federal at the time of award ceremony.

“These scholarships will transform the lives of Suffolk’s hard-working students,” advised Dr. Sylvia A. Diaz, Executive Director of the Suffolk Community College Foundation. “We look forward to growing our partnership with Suffolk Federal, an institution which shares our mission to build our community, support our local workforce and advance our regional economy”. This year, academic scholarship opportunities will total $35,000, an increase from the $20,000 which were awarded by Suffolk Federal last year.

This year’s academic scholarships include:

• Suffolk Federal Scholarship Suffolk Federal will award four scholarships of $5,000 each ($2,500 will be awarded to recipients in the fall of 2019 and $2,500 will be awarded to the recipients in the spring 2020).

Eligibility: High-school seniors who are residents of Suffolk County with a minimum GPA of 77. The student must demonstrate involvement in an extracurricular activity and/or community service. The student must also submit an essay of no more than 250 words explaining their eligibility and how they will benefit from receiving this scholarship.

• The Michael E. Reilly Foundation Memorial Scholarship for Excellence in Fire Science and Emergency Medical Technology Suffolk Federal will award one scholarship of $5,000 to a new full-time student. ($2,500 will be awarded to the recipient in the fall of 2019 and $2,500 will be awarded to the recipient in the spring 2020).

Eligibility: Student must volunteer with the Suffolk County Fire Department, volunteer with a local EMS or be enrolled in a Fire Protection Technology to EMT Paramedic program at Suffolk County Community College in the fall of 2019. The student must submit an essay of no more than 250 words explaining their eligibility and how they will benefit from receiving this scholarship.

• Navy SEAL LT Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship One high school senior becoming a new full-time student will be awarded $10,000. $5,000 will be provided by the LT Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation and matched by Suffolk Federal for a total of $10,000. ($5,000 will be awarded to the recipient during the 2019-2020 academic year and $5,000 will be awarded to the same recipient during the 2020-2021 academic year).

Eligibility: High-school senior who is a resident of Suffolk County with a minimum GPA of 77. The student must demonstrate involvement in a school sport, extracurricular activity and/or involvement at a community-based organization. Education provides endless opportunities for a student’s future and is a gift which will impact a student throughout his/her life.

“The Navy SEAL LT Michael Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation is honored to partner with Suffolk Federal in awarding a scholarship to a deserving high school graduate who is a member of this wonderful banking institution,” said Daniel J. Murphy, father of the late Navy SEAL LT Michael P. Murphy and Suffolk Federal Supervisory Committee Member.

“Michael’s favorite saying was ‘Education will set you free’ and this joint scholarship program with Suffolk Federal continues Michael’s legacy of service and sacrifice. We feel that this scholarship is a perfect way to honor his passion.” “Education and knowledge provide the power which a student can use to accomplish great things in the world. We are excited to offer The Michael E. Reilly Scholarship to a deserving student in memory of our son Michael, who lost his life when home on leave from the Coast Guard,” explained Edward J. Reilly, father of the late Michael E. Reilly and Treasurer at Suffolk Federal. “It is one way we can not only honor Michael’s life, but support the leadership, accomplishments, passion and talents of our students, empowering them to achieve success,” he continued.
