Grant Campus in Brentwood, on Friday, April 26. The conference is a multidisciplinary spring semester event hosted each year by different SUNY institutions. It brings together undergraduate student researchers and faculty mentors from across the SUNY system for activities, including sessions devoted to student presentations—oral, performance, artistic displays, and posters.
Please pass this information along to all interested individuals on your campus. Students and faculty mentors from all academic disciplines are invited to participate in SURC, and we ask that faculty be encouraged to participate with their students.
Students can now begin to submit abstracts on-line to present at the SURC conference.

Deadline – Tristan W. Eagle Scout Project at Suffolk County Community College
Monday, December 18, 2023
For his Eagle Scout Project, on behalf of Suffolk County Community College, Tristan W. will be preservering and creating a display for a large tree cut section from a very old tree that was on the Brentwood Campus and came down during Super Storm Sandy. The display will tell the story of the tree and include a timeline of historical events the tree “witnessed” by identifying the years the correspond with the rings on the tree. This will promote both an understanding of our place in history and a natural history of our local community. Any support that can be offered will be appreciated! Any funds raised above what is needed for the project will be donated to the college.

The Suffolk Community College Foundation’s Education Without Limits campaign that supports students with critical financial backing to help them achieve their academic and career goals, got a $3,000 boost from Plumbers Union Local 200 recently.
Union representatives, including Local 200 Business Agent and New York State Senator Mario Mattera, Joseph Squicciarini, Organizer Edward Tedla and Business Manager Richard Brooks visited the Ammerman Campus to present their generous donation to college officials, including College President Dr. Edward Bonahue and Foundation Director Sylvia Diaz.
“We are incredibly grateful for the generous $3,000 donation from Plumbers Local 200 to our Education Without Limits Campaign,” said Suffolk County Community College President Dr. Edward Bonahue. The donation helps us provide scholarships and other support to our students who are facing financial hardship. New York State Senator Mario Mattera and Plumbers Local 200 are valued partners of Suffolk County Community College, and we are proud to have their support.”
“Suffolk’s Plumbers Local 200 protect the health of all Long Islanders while promoting economic equality, building worker power, helping workers to win increases in pay, better benefits, and safer working conditions, and we are delighted to partner with them to support Suffolk’s promising students along their pathways to success,” said Sylvia A. Diaz, PhD, LMSW, executive director of the Suffolk Community College Foundation.
This Giving Tuesday we encourage support for the Education Without Limits Campaign. In October Suffolk County Community College donors, students, alumni, faculty, staff and elected officials – nearly 200 in all attended a luncheon featured online.
Campaign priority areas include:
Scholarships: we want to increase the number of scholarship opportunities
Hardship funds: to support students faced with a sudden emergency or unforeseen circumstance that results in an immediate financial need.
Naming opportunities: that allow donors to recognize people and/or organizations with meaningful ties to the College and
Academic Program Enhancements: to provide students with enriched experiences customized to reflect the interests of the donor.
The Suffolk Community College Foundation’s mission is to support student access to quality education and vocational skills training by providing scholarships, emergency loans and funding for program development.
The Foundation also engages alumni to maintain their connection to the college, to support foundation events, philanthropy, student mentorship and internship opportunities.
